"M"agine this lunch is more colourful

How did the letter M end up looking so morose??
Ryan's "M" lunch: mango
gel cup; mini muffin;
marinated mushrooms;
meatless meatballs;
macaroni & chreez.

All in a Mario bento.

Lunch need not be "L"-aborate

It was the 100th day of the elementary school year today, so I had to add that in addition to the a"L"phabet theme...
Ryan's "L" lunch: thermos of lentil soup; lychee fruit gel cup; lasagna.

Here is the lasagna...
which disappeared
within 24 hours...just
simple tofu spinach
'ricotta' filling, one layer
of soy crumbles, and
a mix of Vegan Gourmet
and Veganrella cheeses.

I have to make snacks
each day too, though I
don't always bother to
show them because I
don't have time to make
them interesting too!

an o-"K" lunch

The letter "K" turned out to be easier than I expected. And Ryan was psyched about the sushi and the soup...
Ryan's "K" lunch: kalamata olives; kiwi; kidney bean salad; kanpyo maki sushi; kale potato soup.

winter concert

Can't tell I've been busy, huh?! I couldn't even keep up with lunches last week. Friday was the elementary school winter concert. So I managed to stick some music food picks into Ryan's lunch, but that's about it...

Ryan's lunch: veggie burger; cucumber slices; honeydew melon; baby carrots; a pickle.

Maia enjoyed the first 2 songs sung by AJ and the 5 kindergarten classes. But by the middle of the first grade program she had had it, and I had to take her outside to run around.

"J"ury duty?

Oh jeez, I fell asleep sooo early last night and never even unloaded my camera, much less got to blogging about it!
Wouldn't you know, I've been summoned for jury duty a FOURTH time. Seriously, that's more than once each decade folks, and considering I wasn't an adult for half that time I think that's just too often. I will get out of it again, of course, thanks to yet another nursing baby. My first time the case settled very quickly. But still, what is it about me??!!

I don't think this lunch would earn the best grade...the supermarkets here in the winter don't have quite the variety I was hoping for...no jicama, jerusalem artichokes, nor vegan jellybeans. I bought a jalapeno, but really, there aren't too many dishes showcasing a hot pepper that a 7 year old is going to enjoy!
Ryan's "J" lunch: julienned vegetables; creme cheez & jelly sandwich; "J" melon; juice.

I thought this was pretty
funny...instead of just
listening to the radio, my
husband plugs himself
in to NPR, and then the
baby steals half of it and
puts it in her ear. Is new
technology really that
nifty??

"I" scream

I've been wanting to try this for a while...keeping ice cream cool in a Thermos for lunch. "I" day was the perfect opportunity!Ryan's "I" lunch: iceberg lettuce & Tofurky sandwich; Italian pasta salad; ice cream.

Ryan said the ice cream
was only a little bit soft,
but "nice and creamy",
not soupy at all! Success!

Nate's snack: a piece of
Tofurky slice; a pickle;
baby carrots; vegetable
crackers.

ah, ah, ah, "H"-choo!

Gesundheit! Thanks. Sorry, I just sneezed on your lunch.
Eeew.
Really, what can you do phonetically with an H? I couldn't stop thinking of the british sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf, because one of the main characters, Arnold Rimmer, is a hologram. He has a shiny "H" applied to his forehead at all times (except during flashbacks to when he was a "livie"). During many of his spasmic overreactions, Lister would tell him, "Keep your H on!" instead of calm down. Really, that's what I wanted to title this, but it wouldn't have made any sense to 99.8% of the population.

Coming up with "H" food was actually the easy part today...

Ryan's "H" lunch: honeydew melon; haricots verts; home fries; hot dog.

Ryan loves winter...

Apparently there was also
a lot of snow down south
this weekend...well, a lot
for the south, like 6 inches.
I can't imagine everything
grinding to a halt when it
snows. A friend who lives in North Carolina said that even restaurants were closed a day or two after the snowstorm; the only reason she was at work is because she's a nurse. We're lucky if school gets cancelled for a foot of white stuff. Nevertheless, I always look forward to spring. Skiing is too expensive, though I do want to teach the kids to ski when they're a little bit older. I was spoiled with season's passes as a teenager, and free skiing as an instructor later. I wonder how much a weekend of skiing for six would cost now!?!
